"Development
Sketch: Eowyn" One of the first books that I remember reading as a child was J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit. Who wouldn't from that point on read the rest of that fantastic journey? My favorite scene in the Lord of the Rings is the battle of Pelennor Fields, in which Eowyn (daughter of King Theoden) disguises herself in full armor, challenges the Lord of the Nazgul after he tells her "Thou Fool! No living man may hinder me!" After taking off her helm she responds "But no living man am I! You look upon a woman." I love the imagery in the scene as she kills the winged beast the Nazgul Lord rode and it crashes into the ground. This development sketch represents my first drawing of Eowyn in a man's suit of armor, without the elements of Rohan worked into them. Medium:
